this weekend has already been totally draining…emotionally and physically.

last night, most of the staff from my campus went to this cabin up in the mountains. everyone ate way too much meat and ramien, drank ridiculous amounts of soju and maekju, and a few of us stayed up all night to watch the fog burn off of the lake at sunrise. we had philosophical conversations about nature while drinking orange juice from a huge bottle and eating octopus flavored snacks. and we ended the night with a morning nap on the heated floor in our huge piles of blankets and pillows.

now it’s saturday evening, and i think that i could sleep straight through until monday morning. but alas, i am heading out for dinner with michael. just pushing through the fatigue. i feel like i am becoming more korean every day.

today, i had to send two kids to detention, and i had ricky terrify another one by pulling him out into the hall and yelling at him. i was all ready to dance it off when i got home, and then i found out james rolled his ankle while boxing this morning. so, i got online to check my email, and found out that we have a mandatory meeting tomorrow at 1pm… right when i’m supposed to be having an english/korean lesson with harry. they just decided to wait until the night before to tell us. suckfest. that’s what i call a failed day.

sorry for all of the k-pop. but i’m just amazed by the influence it has in this country. i guarantee that you could walk up to almost anyone under the age of 30 right now and say “eh eh eh eh eh eh eh” and they would yell back “2NE1!!”. it’s out of control. but i love it.

today, i walked into my class of 3rd graders only to have this conversation:

elly: teacha! teacha! charlie *cough cough cough* and *shaking* and *boo hoo* and go to desk and now go home!!

me: oh really? charlie is very sick?

elly: yes! 신정 flu! you know 신정 flu??

me: yes i know. i hope he feels better soon!

so who’s to say if he actually has it or not. third graders aren’t always the most reliable source. but, nonetheless, i taught a room full of possibly infected 9 year olds today. and one of our foreign teachers was also out sick. it’s only a matter of time…

tonight, a few of us from work went to the frypan for dinner. it’s this great little, totally westernized, chicken tenders and fries/chips place. i’ve been there quite a few times now. and tonight, the guy who runs the place (and speaks english like it’s a breeze) joked around with me about beating james in the race to fill up our point cards. then, while all of us were standing by the cash register at the end of the night, he called me by my name. he knows me. awesome. it was a beautiful moment. but only inside my head.

the best part of today was when our entire foreign staff went to dunkin donuts in the subway, dressed in halloween costumes. we had people taking our pictures, and children were crying/running away in fear. then came reality, and we had to go back and actually teach.
